SPOILERS FOR EPISODE SIX SEASON ONE HOUSE OF THE DRAGON
It has taken you five episodes to get to grips with the names of everyone in HBO’s Targaryen ’em up and what do they do? Why a time jump with new actresses thrown in of course. As long as they don’t start introducing multiple dragons you should be fine…
Focusing on a birth scene straight off the bat is a bold move, considering what happened last time – the squeamish might turn off. Also if someone could say the characters moniker please because this one looks new. Of course its Rhaenyra, isn’t it? Either way the child is a bouncing baby boy and the Queen wants to see him right away. Do you mean right away, right away because I’m pretty exhausted here. In more pleasing news the newborn has a name and it’s *drumroll* Joffrey. Hmmm maybe you want to try again?
Here is new face Ser Harwin Strong, well he might be new or maybe just had a small role previously. He seems quite important so must be our memory. He has a naty gold cloak doesn’t that mean he is one of Daemon’s men? He seems to be very taken with the baby and the Princess’s husband is gay… Hang on a minute!
What has House of the Dragon been missing? That’s right a goat getting burned alive, everyone say dracarys. This episode has a regular menagerie as next up is a pig, this one is just part of some boyish pranks though and not dragon fodder, hopefully we are not expected to learn its name.
You all saw what they teenage Targaryen boy was doing at that window, what teenage boys do. Though hopefully not all at windows. His mum burst in and instead of an awkward conversation or instant leaving we get a family history lesson, turns out that pig joke backfired – still not learning its name though!
In all of this you have to ask what’s Prince Daemon been doing? Fathering children of his own – they have the right colour of hair it seems. He is now in Pentos and looking to stay but his wife is against the idea, brace lady if she disagrees with him. He is also somewhat cold to his children, who Daemon, whoa you’ve got to be kidding me.
Back to King Landing and Ser Criston’s fight school, here you learn how to fight but also who your real father is. Kind of a Fight Club, Star Wars crossover.
A famed Small Council meeting now and this one goes as well as the rest, luckily the King has a steady Hand who is showing no signs of leaving his position, no signs at all. No mention of the signing in spheres or what they signify, must be in next weeks episode.
Here now we get to the meat of the episode* as Larys Strong steals the show and shows he is not to be trusted, I guess his new recruits can’t write.
Like his brother Daemon looses his wife in childbirth, this one though is slightly more fiery though. He is left with two children and no real clue nor desire to raise them, on the plus side they do have white hair.
To end with Harrenhal continuing its legacy or is that starting its legacy? Darn, prequels are hard.
